Software Subscriptions — Keep Your Scanner Current
Your ThinkCar scanner ships with 1 to 2 years of free software updates depending on the model. After that, an annual subscription keeps your tool current with new vehicle coverage, manufacturer-specific protocol updates, new service functions, and bug fixes. Without updates, your scanner still works — but it won't cover the newest vehicles rolling into your shop.
Here is the reality: automakers release new diagnostic protocols, new module configurations, and new service procedures every model year. The 2026 Ford F-150 does not communicate the same way the 2020 did. CAN FD and DoIP protocols are replacing legacy CAN on an accelerating timeline. If your scan tool software is two years old, you are already missing coverage on a meaningful percentage of the vehicles in your bay.
